Switch Features/Accessories/Games Wishlist for this E3 season
Here’s my massive Nintendo Switch Dream-list for E3 before/during/after announcements for 2018-early 2019.
(Note, some of these are feasible and may very likely happen, while MANY others are pie-in-the-sky
very unlikely, but I would love to have them.
You may not want some of these features—but then again, you don’t have to use them. Options to turn many of these off/hide them in settings would be an ideal compromise).
Which of these do you also hope for (even if they’re very unlikely)? Which
don’t you ever want?
Again, *
many of these are extremely unlikely to ever happen, * but I can dream...
Switch OS, features, apps: - Updated UI for app/game placement on home screen and folders
- Web browser (please work with Google Chrome developers to build a secure, reliable browser based on Chromium instead of trying to re-invent the wheel), Activity Log, and media apps: Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Video, Twitch, HBO, and Showtime (already have Hulu)
- Overhauled eShop experience similar to that on the 3DS or on Apple’s App Store with genre categories, franchise categories, and publisher categories. Include Best Seller lists for all games, games under $10, and Best Sellers for each major category. Include “Game of the Week/Month” and curated lists (by actual people) for certain players and automatically generated “for you” list based on purchase and play history.
- Themes and more avatar items. Some free, some paid. Ability to use Platinum coins to purchase any theme or avatar item (gold coins for games). 100 gold coins = $1, 1000 Platinum coins = $1 for Themes/avatar items. Can have exclusive themes/avatars for MyNintendo members using Platinum coins only.
- MyNintendo Missions (achievement system) for all first-party games, retroactive, and required third-party support in the near future, encouraging third-party developers to update existing games for support (same as PlayStation Trophies or Xbox Achievements, but awards Platinum coins one-time). Awards Platinum coins for completing missions, varying amounts, say 5000 coins for all missions on a full, $60 game. Displays “badges” on Profile and on MyNintendo website
- Add new MyNintendo App on Switch to show coin balances and Mission progress. Include a profile here to list all played games, total time played, and Mission progress. Can include tips to compete Missions and ways to earn platinum coins outside of Missions.
- Update weekly 30 coins bonus to instead visit MyNintendo app or website, Nintendo homepage, and Switch eShop (instead of 3DS/Wii U)
- Change platinum and gold coin expirations to 12 months of no activity (resets every time you earn or redeem coins, instead of 6 months for Platinum when earned and 12 months for gold; 24 month no-activity expiration for EU due to consumer law).
- Double gold coin amounts, likely bonus for Online service subscription (free: 1% for physical, 5% for digital; Subscriber: 2% for physical, 10% for digital).
- Allow more flexibility when redeeming gold coins instead of “all or nothing”. Allow users to use “some” coins to lower price.
- Remove 1-year redemption time limit for physical games. Give gold coins for digital purchases even if you use gold coins for that purchase.
- Bring back Miiverse, now exclusively on Switch. Add a customizable room to display posters of Miifotos, gameplay screenshots taken with the Share button, MyNintendo Mission badge wall, and a shelf for Amiibo. Allow players to scan an Amiibo to add it to their collection and unlock exclusive outfits for each Amiibo, wearable by their Miis. Add mini-games like the Wii U bundled game for single player, local co-op, and free online multiplayer to earn Platinum coins and bragging rights. Allow players to spend platinum coins for more clothing/accessories/wallpapers/furniture. No micro-transactions: only use free Platinum coins. Add StreetPass and other Mii/Miiverse features from the Wii, Wii U, 3DS versions and Miitomo (but without all the questions and eery data-mining...)
- Virtual Console! Include all the top games originally released for the NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, GameBoy, GameBoy Color, and GameBoy Advance. Add select titles for the Wii, DS, and 3DS. (Popular Wii U titles can be rereleased at full-price like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokken DX, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker). DS/3DS Games can be played on Switch similar to how they played (at least DS) on the Wii U Virtual Console. Two screens side-by-side. The ability to shrink the lower screen and swap positions would be nice. Certain Wii and GameCube games would have to be tweaked to allow for seamless controls as the GameCube controls sometimes differed and the lack of WiiMote (where the JoyCon’s motion controls can be used).
- It would be ideal, but very unlikely, if you purchased a Virtual Console game on either the Wii U or the 3DS that you’ll be able to play it again on the Swith without paying for it again, as you can link the Wii U’s and 3DS’ Nintendo Network ID with a MyNintendo Account used on the Switch.
- Manual and cloud backups. Allow users to back up any or all of the following: game save data, system settings, saved screenshots and 30-second video clips; backups can be saved to installed microSD or to a USB hard drive (recommended hard drive has own power source, not relying on USB power like portable drives) when docked. Can also backup a full system image. Nintendo can encrypt game save data to Nintendo Account to prevent sharing/piracy. Include free cloud backup of all system settings and up to, say, 500MBs of game save data (should be enough for most players) including screenshots and video clips. Give Online Service subscribers unlimited cloud backup space (as many game saves and up to all 1,000 max screenshots/video clips)
Online Service Perks (including those mentioned above) $20 a year / $5 for 3 months
- Double gold coins for purchases: 2% physical, 10% digital
- Unlimited Cloud Backup space
- Access to “Classic Arcade” Games with multiplayer (handful of announced games and a couple extra) a la Netflix (maybe 5-10 games total)
- Exclusive discounts for select eShop games, discounts rotating monthly. If members buy a game with a discount they can play it forever unlike PlayStation Plus members needing to stay subscribed for games they paid for but got a discount.
- Monthly gifts, including 1 free Virtual Console or Nindie game (valued at less than $5, normally $2-4), and a free premium theme or avatar item. Players can access / play these gifts even if they’re no longer subscribed.
- Of course, online multiplayer.
- Service not required for online Miiverse play or for online media apps like Hulu, Netflix, YouTube
First-Party Accessories - Release classic wired and wireless controllers for each past console. Pro Controllers and Joy-Cons themed around the NES/SNES/N64/GameCube, where the N64 and GameCube Pro Controllers would look very similar to the original, with the added Switch buttons (+/-/Home/Share) and Amiibo support. Wired (more affordable) and wireless options. JoyCons can simply be color themed to match systems.
- Add USB hub to plug in up to 4 or 8 wired controllers, using both USB-A and USB-C (can be USB-A with an A-to-C adapter) for either Docked or Handheld mode (using a stand). Or, have each hub support 4 controlers and be able to daisy-chain another for 8 controllers.
- Release an official Switch stand to allow for TableTop mode with varying kickstand angles as well as playing while charging or using USB-C accessories.
- Release more affordable dock solutions, including a portable dock.
- Release a more compact USB-C to USB-C power adapter (removable cable; USB-A to USB-C will charge slower; C to C can be as fast as current USB-PD/non-removable cable) with collapsible plug (part that plugs into wall can fold down to take up less space).
Switch Games First Party - New Yoshi game: June
- Fire Emblem: July
- Super Mario Maker 2: July
- Pikmin 4: August
- New Smash Bros: September
- Animal Crossing: October
- New Pokémon (2 versions): November
- Announce development of new Legend of Zelda using same engine as Breath of the Wild (with a reduced development time!) coming 2019 or 2020.
In the meantime, an HD Remaster (not remake) of “Windwaker, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword HD Trilogy” for Switch with reworked motion controls and Amiibo support.
Pokemon - Pokémon TCG Online for Switch (port of tablet iOS/Android/PC client).
- New TCG game exclusive to Switch using new TCG Amiibo cards (sold individually and maybe include one per pack of regular TCG cards; a mashup of Animal Crossing Amiibo cards and Pokémon TCG physical cards, similar to Nintendo’s recent patent). Have offline single player and maybe integrate with TCG Online game for online multiplayer using new Amiibo Pokémon cards, or just fold feature into port of PTCGO for Switch, requiring the Switch for Amiibo card use/singleplayer campaign. Free to play, but Amiibo card purchase required for that gameplay mode.
- Amiibo support for the new Pokémon games. Ability to save a battle team of 6 to a new Pokémon Amiibo that you can tap on a friend’s Switch to let them use or battle against your team!
*All Past Pokemon Games, with Pokemon Bank support on Switch
- Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/SilveCrystal: May
- Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/FireRed/LeafGreen: June
- Diamond/Pearl/Platinum/HeartGold/SoulSilver with PokeWalker app: July
- Black/White/Black 2/White 2 with DreamRadar app: August
- X/Y/Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire: September
- Sun/Moon/Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon: October
- New Pokémon: November
Pokemon Bank - New Pokémon Bank uses same subscription as on 3DS ($5 a year, shared).
- Migrate 3DS Pokemon from Bank to Bank (likely one-way), select which boxes; ability to keep some Pokémon on 3DS.
- Expanded storage to 200 boxes of 30 from 100 boxes (mine is almost full!)
- Works natively with all Switch Pokémon games, including Red/Blue/Yellow without needed Pokémon Transporter. (Same as X/Y and newer on 3DS)
- Ability to move Pokémon between older generations, same gen or newer; not backwards in time. (Red to Yellow, Blue to Silver, Crystal to Ruby, etc, not Gold to Red).
- Full, 3D Pokémon images instead of 2D low-res sprites
- Expanded National and game-specific Pokedexes.
- Professor becomes an interactive NPC that encourages you to collect Pokémon available and not yet caught in registered games. Also offers trades for certain Pokémon and rewards similar to Hayley in “My Pokemon Ranch” for Wii.
- Ability to store items for Pokémon from Gold/SilveCrystal and newer (excludes Key Items, Mega Stones, and Z-Crystals)
- Ability to view all stats, including EVs and IVs
- EV train Pokémon similar to Poke Pelago in SuMo/USUM for Pokemon from RSE and newer (and for older Pokémon when migrated).
- Grow berries and breed Pokémon with included nursery and hatch eggs using “hot spring” like in Poke Pelago.
- Discover items like in Poke Pelago.
- Features can unlock gradually as you expand your Pokémon collection and for filling your Pokédex.
- Integrated directly in the PC with new Pokémon games (not previous games USUM and earlier), so you can view/transfer Pokémon to/from the Bank within the main game from the PC.
- In September or later (perhaps with release of new Pokémon games) online multiplayer trading within the Bank, similar to GTS, with friends, or using local wireless.
Third Party Games Previous third-party games on other consoles on Switch
- Spyro Reignited Trilogy: September, same day as PS4/Xbox One
Square Enix * Square Enix restores commitment to Nintendo by bringing entire Final Fantasy library to Switch, with staggered releases * First release classic Final Fantasy from the original to FFVI, * PS1 era FFVII to IX, * PS2 remasters FFX/X-2 HD and FFXII Zodiac Age HD, * Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy, * Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition with exclusive Switch DLC and all past DLC included. * Final Fantasy VII Remake coming to Switch same day as Xbox One, after timed-exclusive launch on PS4. * Announcement of simultaneous Kingdom Hearts 3 release with a Kingdom Hearts HD Remix collection with KH 1.5 + 2.5 + 2.8 HD Remixes available as a collection this SummeFall * Release of classic Chrono Trigger Games on Switch
Rockstar * Grand Theft Auto V is coming to Switch alongside the Online Service in September. * GTA3/ Vice City/ San Andreas HD Collection this summer * GTA IV this fall * Announcement of GTA 6 to be released next year with simultaneous launch on Switch * And... Red Dead Redemption
Capcom * More Mega Man * Resident Evil 7 is coming to Switch this fall * Classic RE games coming this summer, including RE Classic Collection (RE0, RE1, RE2, RE3), Code Veronica X HD, RE4 HD, RE5, RE6
And many other top third-party games previously released on PlayStation and Xbox Platforms, but the above are my favorites.
Edit: formatting. As you can tell, I have a ton of wishes and hopes for the Switch and the vast majority of them will never happen. I’d just love to have the option to play all of my favorite franchises on one hybrid system, with features that exist in other platforms with their own Nintendo-esque flair.
Edit 2: I realize this list is long and my wishes are “insane” and that this post is “pointless” to some. I had this sitting in my phone’s notes for a bit and recently added even more to it and figured, “hey, if I share this on
NintendoSwitch 100s of people will hate it, leave pointless and/or negative comments and downvote it into oblivion, but maybe one or two people will think “I hope so, too”.
Why? Because I’m bored and can’t decide whether to finish Korok seed collecting or power moon collecting, or to start one of the myriad games I’ve purchased but barely played.
Don’t like this post? —fine, I expected as much. Downvote it. If you think one or more of the ideas would be awesome even if far-fetched, maybe upvote it. Doesn’t bother me much either way. I think my karma drops every time I make post anywhere on reddit anyway.

Intro: this post is very long, highly speculative, and has been characterized as insane and silly. It was also removed from
